3 Things to do before an Implementation.

Moving onto another platform or system can seem daunting at first. There are so many things to do and learn and how the heck do you keep it all straight? Well we’re here to give you the 411 to make this Herculean task in to something a bit more manageable.

Companies that have decided to make the right step of moving off their old system into a new ERP have a lot ahead of them. However, with the right planning and preparation, you will see that goal line of implementation well in reach. This post will go over the TOP 5 tasks every company should go through BEFORE implementation.

#1. Sit down, plan out, and solidify your Business Process

A vendor has a lot of knowledge about how to use their system, but you actually know how your companies run. It is very important for you to clearly define and explain your needs. Before you start your implementation, sit down and focus on areas of your business that have had successes and your current pain points. Taking the time to focus solely on your current operations will help to keep your goals consistent and applying the right system to achieve them.

#2. Phased approach with coordinated project goals

Like anything in life when a goal or project seems to outrageous it’s easier to break them down into smaller, more manageable tasks. If you’re like me coming up with a top down approach helps me visualize the project better. Try coming up with some phases to break down the initial project and then further break the phases down into manageable goals to help keep everything in scope. Make sure to have some deadlines associated will keep your team accountable.

Successful implementations should also have a dedicated Project Manager to oversee the transition. This is not a part time job. They will need to manage communications within the company and relay the information to the vendor, and make sure projects are on schedule. They will ensure that the business processes lined out from before are the core focus of system implementation. They have to make sure everyone stays on track.

#3. Consider a Committee

Every department of the company has different needs they want addressed when switching to new system. An internal committee will give the company a way to decide how your software should be implemented. This committee should be comprised of key personnel from each department who fully understands their needs and can assist in decisions on how the system will be used.
